Latino Immigrant Health

The Wisconsin Migration Research Group meeting on Oct 25 at 4 pm will be in Sewell Social Sciences Room 8146, which is down the hall from the Sociology dept office on the 8th Floor.

Our first research presentation of the group will be on "Latino Immigrant Health: An Intergenerational Analysis" by Steven ElĂ­as Alvarado, Dept of Sociology, UW-Madison.

The Wisconsin Migration Research Group will be meeting on Wed, Oct 25 @ 4pm, location TBA. (Hopefully though, we can get the Havens Centre seminar room again in Sewell).

Leadership: Steering Committee
In order to keep the group going and strengthen our leadership infrastructure, we are currently looking for two members to join the steering committee. You will work closely with Ted Gerber, Steven Alvarado, Vinthany Souvannarath, and Mytoan Nguyen. We'd like to encourage members outside of the Dept of Sociology to volunteer for this leadership position.

European University Institute and other announcments

The European University Institute's Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies has a website offering migration resources for scholars and students working on this type of research: http://www.iue.it/RSCAS/Research/MIGRES.

Northwestern University's Center for African American and the Program in Asian American Studies will be convening a symposium called Point and Counterpoint on April 20 and 21, 2007. The call for papers went out, contact: asianamerican@northwestern.edu and k-jaffer@northwestern.edu for details, the deadline is November 1, 2006 to send paper proposals.
